How to Use Tive for Zoom

Contents

Tive for Zoom brings a certified ASL interpreter into your Zoom meeting. Use it for work meetings, interviews, trainings, webinars — anywhere you’d normally need an interpreter in the room.

    Before you start

    • Desktop Zoom on Mac or PC. Tive for Zoom isn’t available on mobile Zoom.
    • An activated Tive VRS account. Tive for Zoom checks for this at login — a Tive account on its own isn’t enough, and VRS registration has to be approved and active. Not registered yet? See How to Register for Tive VRS.

Step 1 — Add Tive for Zoom

Open the Zoom desktop app, go to Apps, and search for Tive for Zoom. Tap Add.

You can also add it straight from the Zoom Marketplace.

In Zoom, open Apps then Add apps and search for Tive for Zoom.

    Step 2 — Log in

Open Tive for Zoom inside Zoom and log in with your Tive account.

Login checks that your VRS account is activated. If your VRS registration is still pending or hasn’t been approved, login won’t complete — check your status first with How to Check Your VRS Application Status.

You only do this once. After that it’s ready whenever you need it.

Log in with your activated Tive VRS account.

Step 3 — Request an interpreter

How you request depends on whether you’re hosting the meeting.

    If you’re the host

    • In your Zoom meeting, open Tive for Zoom
    • Click Request Interpreter
    • The interpreter joins your meeting
    Hosts click Request Interpreter.

    If you’re not the host

    • In your Zoom meeting, open Tive for Zoom
    • Copy the meeting link and paste it into Meeting URL
    • Click Request Interpreter
    • The host approves the request
    • The interpreter joins your meeting
Not the host? Paste the meeting link into Meeting URL, then Request Interpreter.

    If the interpreter doesn’t join

The most common reason: you weren’t the host, and the host hasn’t approved yet. Ask them to check for the approval prompt in Zoom.

    Also worth checking:

    • You’re on desktop Zoom, not mobile
    • You’re logged in, and your VRS account is activated — login fails if registration is still pending
    • For a non-host request, the Meeting URL was pasted correctly
